Ross opening batsmen Jack Evans and James Tiffen starred in a 10-wicket hammering of Claverley in the Worcestershire County League.

The duo were inspired, with Evans making 80 not out and Tiffen, 74 not out, in the south Herefordshire side’s superb away triumph in Division 5.

In reply to the Shropshire outfit’s 174 all out, Evans and Tiffen swept Ross to the target in the 29th over.

Max Porter (3-37) and Chris Mair (3-38) had starred as Ross dismissed the hosts in just 38 overs.

The biggest surprise of the day was at Regency Road where promotion-chasing Colwall slumped to a threerun defeat at arch-rivals Malvern in Division 2.

The Herefordshire side paid for their inexperience in the middle order and spinner Jeremy Lee (4-49) bowled Malvern to a vital win.

Colwall skipper Damien Berry (5-42) and Mike King (3-51) had helped restrict lowly Malvern to 191-9 despite contributions from Max White (37) and Anthony Arnold (32).

The Stowe Lane club were going well when James Abel (75) and Tom Coleman (49) were at the crease.

But once they were parted, Colwall’s reply fell apart and the visitors were dismissed in the 36th over.

Paceman Byron Newton (4- 46) and Mark Preece (3-5) fired Burghill & Tillington to an emphatic 132-run win at Netherton.

Jack Hale (89), stand-in skipper Owen Morgan (55) and Ed Oliver (41) were the leading run makers in Burghill’s 256 all out.

Wormelow centurions Ben Owens and Matthew Evans shared a 230-run opening stand in a winning draw against lowly Kidderminster Victoria.

Owens was in sparkling form, hitting 153 from just 133 balls, while Evans made 115 in Wormelow’s formidable 334-3 at Kennel Field.

But Kidderminster’s batsmen also found the excellent pitch to their liking and Paul Mitchell’s 111 not out took the visitors to 227-4.

Monmouth’s batting frailties resurfaced in a 125-run hiding at the Sports Ground against top-of-the-table Coombs Wood.

Despite Jonathan Roberts bagging 4-54, the Halesowen outfit posted 268-9 with Jon Stanaway (81) leading the way.

Monmouth slumped to 19-5 against accurate bowling from Saeed Mahmood (4-9 from 10 overs).

Skipper Paul Swingwood (77 not out) and Wayne Etheridge (11) were the only home batsmen to contribute in the Welshmen’s 143 all out.

A defiant 60 from Zahid Saeed was the highlight of Bromyard’s eight-wicket defeat at table-topping Stourbridge in Division 1.

Bromyard were bowled out for 137 and Stourbridge swept home in the 28th over.

There was also disappointment for bottom-of-the-table Canon Frome, who were shot out for just 82 in a ninewicket home hammering by high-flying Tenbury in Division 4. Edward Corfield (5-42) and Bruce Mason (3- 30) were responsible for Frome’s downfall.
