WITH the leaders Garnons suffering their first defeat of the season, the chasing pack in Division 1 of the GB Liners Marches League were able to close the gap on them.

Luctonians thrashed a weakened Kington side at Mortimer Park to retain second spot. Luctonians rattled up 253-7 batting first and then bowled the border side out for just 70 to win by 183 runs.

Duncan Platford (53) and Dan Mulvanna (77) set the tone with an opening partnership of 127. Robert Stokes (23) and Roger Jones (19) were the only two Kington batsmen to offer any resistance against Max Cheek (5-24), Tom Jay (3-33) and Paul Davies (2-12).

Adam Morgan was in devastating form to keep Builth Wells hot on their heels following a 94-run win at Crickhowell. He took 7-18 to bowl the home side out for just 73, after being part of the Builth middle-order which helped Builth reach 167 after making a poor start to their innings.

Morgan made 34 and along with Anthony Mead (23) and Alistair Cox (39) rescued the innings after Nick Francis (7-21) had threatened to destroy it.

Paul Cornock (39) fought a lone battle with the bat for Crickhowell.

Glangrwyney moved above visiting Bartestree and Lugwardine in the table after pulling off a convincing 108-run home win over them.

Openers Paul Daniell (51) and Mike Parker (46) set them on the way to a score of 222-9, setting the stage for Tom Grubb (6-40) to take over and complete the job by bowling the Herefordshire side out for 114.

Ben Simpkin with (4-51) and (39) can justifiably feel unfortunate to be on the losing side.

After making a good start to their innings, Garnons were bowled out for 171, and visiting Goodrich reached their target with half their wickets intact.
