Special honour for stalwart

Marden CC stalwart Dave Lloyd was stumped after collecting a special wicket-keeping honour at the club’s awards evening.

Part-time gloveman Lloyd was given the award by vice president Dave Sawkins after making his first-ever stumping last summer after 25 years with Marden.

James Bryon also scooped a special honour for his many years’ support for the club. He will be playing cricket closer to his Cheltenham home next season.

More than 50 guests enjoyed a successful evening at Burghill Golf Club which celebrated 25 years of cricket at Marden.

Past and present players recalled fixtures from yesteryear and current Saturday skipper Rupert Lawrence reported on a league season that had started well but faded.

Sunday captain Pete Richards was pleased at the way his young Sunday side competed in the HMB Catley Staite Herefordshire Sunday League.

There were important contributions from Young Player of the Year Jordan Cullen and Ashley Nelder.

Dave Bird won the Saturday team’s batting award, while Mike Williams snared the bowling and Clubman of the Year honours.

Richards was voted player of the year for a string of strong performances.

A special mention was given to Nick Ashton who has re-introduced a successful junior coaching programme at Marden.

lTIM Boulter has been appointed as the new first-team captain of Wormelow Cricket Club.

The all-rounder takes over from Shaun Waldron who has stepped down from the helm of the Worcestershire County League Division 3 side.

All-rounder Andy Davies returns as second team captain, while Steve Weston continues as third team skipper.

Waldron and Ian Herbert will be sharing the role of chief groundsman at Kennel Field following veteran Derek Porter’s decision to step down after many years of excellent service.
