PRESIDENT Nick Nenadich believes Worcestershire County Cricket Club should start recognising Herefordshire’s talented players.
The Herefordshire CCC chief says there is a fine nucleus of local players who have represented the county.
“In this tough economic time, I fail to see why our sister county club, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, is unable to see the synergies that a strong liaison could bring,” said Nenadich. “Surely this could further demonstrate value for money and give stronger exposure to developing talent?
“These are new days and require some different thinking and a willingness to accept that ultimately a strong player base will serve the country.”
Nenadich said Herefordshire were just a couple of players short of a competitive side.
“Our captain, Chris Boroughs, has stuck to his task, both for the county and club and I believe we have a fine nucleus of local players supported with other young talent seeking higher cricketing opportunity,” he said.
“We are only one or two players short of being a very competitive outfit if all players commit and make themselves fully available.”
He also praised Brockhampton and Eastnor who are in the Birmingham & District Premier League set-up.
“Several of our local clubs are making considerable strides in the Premier League set-up,” said Nenadich.
“I would like to think that the exposure and experience gained at Minor Counties level has been a catalyst for this.
“This is again a way of strengthening our grass roots cricket.
“We do have something happening here, it has not happened by chance. However, it does need to be supported and nurtured.”
Nenadich gave his backing to the committee of Herefordshire CCC.
“I congratulate the committee for sticking to their plans, in some difficult times, when results have been disappointing, “They have given considerable time and commitment, often at their own expense.
“All this is done with genuine desire to improve from within.”
