Captain Waldron is leading Wormelow batsman

MORE than 60 members and guests attended Wormelow's end-of-season awards function at the GWRSA social club where skipper Shaun Waldron picked up the first-team batting award.

The all-rounder notched 724 runs at an average of 65.82 with six half-centuries.

Club chairman Chris Powell was the leading first-team bowler while Tim Boulter, who scored four centuries in the club's Crusader Worcestershire County League Division 3 campaign, was the first-team player of the year.

John Prime and Dan Hale collected the batting and bowling awards for the second team where the player-of-the-year award, to be named after club stalwart Derek Porter, went to Luke Jones.

Jones picked up a second award when he was named young player of the year.

The club's third team, who had special cause to celebrate after winning promotion from Division 5 of the GB Liners Marches League, made John Herderschee, who hit a top score of 142 not out, their player of the year.

Marcus Ashcroft and Barry Geyton were the third-team batsman and bowler of the year respectively.

Tom Bevan was named clubman of the year, while Porter, who has been associated with Wormelow since 1966, was given a special award for his outstanding contribution to the club.
