BROMYARD captain Edd Oliver hopes that his young side have got used to life in the Worcestershire County League Division Two and can now propel themselves up the division.

Despite running teams close his side won only one of their first seven leagues games, but Oliver hopes that the Flaggoners Green men have now turned the tide with back-to-back victories.

Last weekend they showed their credentials with a seven wickets victory of high-flying Enville.

Enville elected to bat but struggled thanks to the bowling of James Owens (3-13) while George Leighton, Jacob Redsull and David Taylor all took two wickets each leaving their visitors all-out for 158.

Opener Oliver led the chase hitting an unbeaten 51 in reply while George Leighton smashed 95 from 59 balls at the other end. However, he was bowled and caught with his side needing one run for victory at 158-3.

Greg Leighton came in and took the honours of hitting the winning run.

"They were fourth in the league coming into the game but we beat them in both games last season so I was quite confident we could beat them again," said Oliver

"They won the toss which was a bit of a blow for us but we bowled and fielded well to get them all out.

"George (Leighton) has been on good form so I was quite happy at the other end while he smashed the ball about.

"We have a young side which apart from two or three regulars who are in their 30s, the rest are aged between 15 and 24. Our young lads have now got a year more experience and are improving week by week.

"Last year the bowlers went through a period where they were smashed every week but that hasn't happened this season and all the games have been quite close."

Next week Bromyard travel to an inconsistent Lye side who sit a point below.

Oliver hopes that the next three games could propel his side up the league.

He added: "We had a tough start to the season facing teams who were near the top.

"We have been close though, in two games we lost by two wickets, in another we were two runs short and another 12 runs short. So we could have won another two or three from those four.

"Hopefully we can get on a bit of a run now as the next three weeks we play teams around or below us so hopefully we can go on a bit of a run. We want to try and finish as high as possible."
