HEREFORDSHIRE all-rounder Liam Gwynne says it's nice to have reached 1,000 runs in the Minor Counties Cricket Association (MCCA) Knockout Cup – only the third county player to have reached the feat.
The 25-year-old left-handed batsman has racked up 1,031 runs in 23 matches at an average of 49.10, including a century and nine fifties.
Gwynne, who plays his club cricket with Ombersley, has been involved with the Herefordshire County Cricket Club set-up since 2012.
He helped Herefordshire to win the MCCA Knockout Cup last season.
And with former Worcestershire player Matt Pardoe unavailable, Gwynne is skippering Herefordshire in their Minor Counties Championship match with Cheshire at Brockhampton, starting on Sunday.
“It’s nice to have reached 1,000 runs in the one-day competition but it’s not something I have thought too much about,” said Gwynne.
“Jim Morris, our scorer, is brilliant with statistics and figures and told me before one of the matches I needed 35 runs to get to 1,000.
"It isn’t something I have concentrated too much on.”
Gwynne represented Worcestershire from the under 10s to under 16s age group levels.
He was introduced to Herefordshire by the club’s then coach Harshad Patel.
Patel, who opened the batting for Herefordshire and captained the team, scored 1,195 runs in 37 innings MCCA Trophy matches at an average of 35.15.
