COLWALL'S woes have worsened with the news that all-rounder Matt Morgan is set to miss the rest of the season after fracturing his kneecap.

Morgan sustained the injury while chasing the ball in the field during Colwall's game against Hagley in Worcestershire League Division One on Saturday.

Despite overseas star Ancil Nedd taking a five-wicket haul and captain Ben Wheeler hitting a stunning 96 off just 41 balls, Colwall lost the game by 58 runs and are still without a win this season.

Having asked the home side to bat, Colwall got off to a disappointing start, with Johnno Gooch unable to find his line early on, conceding several wides in his opening over.

Brother Mike Gooch was much more accurate at the other end, but Colwall’s fielding was below par, with several catches being spilled early on.

The introduction of Nedd’s off-spin proved fruitful as he went through the middle order, before finishing with 5-67.

But opener Joe Lennon went on to reach a solid 85 for Hagley, and although Mike Gooch took wickets in his second spell, the home side managed to total 237-8 from their 50 overs.

Colwall’s early batting once again failed to fire against some accurate bowling by Amjad Ali (4-30) and half the side were dismissed for barely 50 runs inside the opening 15 overs.

Henry Coleman had provided a brief assault on the home attack, but the real fireworks came from Wheeler, who smashed the ball around and finding the boundary almost at will.

His knock included eight fours and nine sixes before he finally fell leg before.

Colwall then quickly folded to 179 all out.
