BROCKHAMPTON have lost their opening two games of the Birmingham & District Premier Division season after falling to a 42-run defeat to West Bromwich Dartmouth.

A fine knock of 49 from Shozair Ali, batting at number eight, ultimately proved the difference as West Bromwich Dartmouth made 224.

At one stage it looked like Brockhampton would skittle out their opponents for far fewer runs after fine bowling from captain Nick Powell and Adam Hewlett had West Bromwich Dartmouth reeling at 172-9.

But Ali's knock, off just 42 balls, added crucial runs for the away side.

Brockhampton got off to a poor start and were in big trouble at 44-4.

Hewlett had faced just six balls when he went for one before Tom Austwick failed to score.

Henry Langford and Dinusha Fernando then put on a resolute partnership, but were unable to add too many more runs.

It wasn't until mid-order batsmen Ashley and Ian Bullock got to the crease that Brock made a fight of it.

However when they both went, Brockhampton were 177-9 and unlike their opponents, could only add a further three runs before being bowled out.

Brockhampton will be hoping to claim their first win of the campaign this Saturday when they host a Dorridge side who have also lost both of their matches.
