A FORMER Herefordshire cricketer has been handed one of the sport's top accolades.
England all-rounder Chris Woakes, who played a handful of games for the county in the early stages of his career, has been named as one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year in the 2017 almanack.
Woakes, 28, played one Minor Counties championship and three one-day matches in 2006 and 2007 on dual registration as a young Warwickshire player.
He has gone on to underline his precocious promise by becoming a regular in the England set-up as a lower middle-order batsman and a lively seam bowler.
