CRICKET lovers in Herefordshire are encouraged to attend a meeting to discuss the sport in the county.

Representatives from Herefordshire County Cricket Club and Herefordshire Cricket Ltd will be giving short presentations at the GWRSA (Railway) Club in Hereford from 7.30pm on Monday, February 27.

There are also plans on the night to include a club information area with details about insurance, the ECB Coaches Association and various potential funding streams.

"There are clearly a lot of people who care about cricket in Herefordshire, but I feel that as a county everyone could work together far more to achieve better results and get more people involved with the game," said Herefordshire Cricket Ltd operations director Steve Watkins.

"We have clubs playing in three different leagues – the Birmingham League, the Worcestershire League and the Marches League – but that should not prevent us all working together for the greater good of the sport locally.

"By working together we can try to create opportunities for everyone who’d like to play the game – old or young – and also ensure there is a pathway for our more talented youngsters to progress to the best standard they can.

"The intention on the night is for it to begin with short presentations about Herefordshire Cricket Limited, which will include an update on new plans from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Herefordshire Minor Counties from new Chairman, Richard Prime, before we then break into smaller groups to try to gauge thoughts and ideas from the people in attendance.

"I am hopeful this meeting will be the first of what becomes a regular feature on the cricket calendar locally, with the long-term aim being to grow the game in Herefordshire and ensure that as many opportunities as possible are available to ensure cricket remains healthy moving forward."
