COUNTY businesses Brightwells and Burgoynes staged their last ever cricket match following 60 plus games.

The historic fixture was played at Kington Recreation Ground in front of just under 150 spectators and resulted in a tie at 73 runs each.

Brightwells won the toss and elected to bat on a sensitive wicket which was conducive to bowling.

Richard Binnersley top scored for the auctioneers with 30 not out retired, with Jonty Howard returning the best bowling figures for the marquee erectors.

When batting, Burgoynes were helped along by Neil Stokes, who scored 29 runs.

Roy Jones was the best bowler for Brightwells, taking a wicket and keeping the score down to only five runs off his three overs.

Burgoynes needed four off the final over to win, but some tight fielding held them to only three and a tie was awarded.

Terry Court, who as been a competitor in most of the matches, was presented with an engraved magnum of Bollinger, as was Peter Burgoyne.
