HEAVY rain saw Herefordshire County Cricket Club's Unicorns Minor Counties Championship match against Wiltshire at Brockhampton abandoned.

It was hoped play would continue today after the heavens opened yesterday, but the water got under the covers, leaving the pitch unplayable.

Wiltshire had posted a very competitive 415 in their first innings thanks to a fine century from Jake Lintott; Will Barrett taking three wickets for Herefordshire.

Herefordshire started their reply strongly before Matt Pardoe and Ed Pollock went in quick succession.

Alex Phillips also followed Chris Whittock back to the pavilion to leave Herefordshire reeling on 114-4 before David Exall was the last wicket to be taken.

Herefordshire ended Monday on 178-5 and no play took place today.

"Wiltshire batted on the Sunday when it was a lovely day, but when we batted, it was cloudy and the ball was swinging," said Herefordshire chairman of selectors Ernie Morgan.

"They had far better batting conditions and we even had to go off for bad light on the Monday.

"Then the rain came and it ended up being a boring draw."
