SHIREBULLS have pulled out of the GB Liners Marches League due to lack of players.

The county side started this season ground sharing at Dales after previously playing at Wyeside in Hereford.

But after struggling to raise a full side for matches this season, the club have decided to call it a day.

"People left the club and moved away from the area and we were having no more than eight players available, so it wasn't very competitive," said Shirebulls chairman Chris Breeze.

"Some people seem to be more interested in football and rugby than cricket and it seems that a few teams have been struggling this season.

"If you're a kid in Hereford who wants to play cricket, you have to travel because the only nearest places are Burghill and Bartestree, so there's not much in Hereford in terms of youth development.

"Players left us to go elsewhere and the football and rugby seasons ran on later this year because of the weather.

"We also had players who support Hereford FC and wanted to watch them.

"I'm not sure what will happen to the club because not having a venue will be difficult, but all the players are free to play elsewhere.

"I've signed on at Dales because they helped out with the groundshare."

Meanwhile, Almeley lost by three wickets to Knighton-on-Teme in the only Marches match that finished last Saturday.

Heavy rain that all the other games across the four divisions were either called off or abandoned.

Almeley were bowled out for just 95, with Nick Evans (40) and Michael Batson (34) scoring most of the runs.

The next highest scorer was Rob Williams, who only made three runs as the Knighton bowlers whipped through their attack.

Sam Siveter finished with 4-34, while Callum Spires (3-9) also had fine figures.

But despite needing only 96 to run, Knighton-on-Teme made hard work of it,

Like Almeley, Knighton relied on two players – namely Jack Brain and Spires – to score most of their runs.

But they managed to get the required runs with three wickets in hand.
