BROCKHAMPTON chairman Roy Wargen believes the future is still bright for his club despite the first team being relegated from the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League Premier Division.

The villagers had to beat West Bromwich Dartmouth to stand any chance of staying in the division, but succumbed to a heavy 101-run defeat, meaning that Wolverhampton stayed up by just five points.

But Wargen says that the players, including overseas star Danny Irvine, want to stay at the club, while former captain Ben Stebbings has indicated that he could return to the club.

"We will be rebuilding but the good thing is that after the game, the players were really positive about it and want to come back up," said Wargen.

"We've got a good overseas player in Danny Irvine and he is talking about coming back again.

"He is a good player and has been a tremendous asset to the club.

"The next two years are very important to us, but our under-13s are one of the top ten teams in the country and the ladies have done tremendously under the leadership of Kate Bishop and haven't lost a game all season.

"No one wants to be relegated in any sport, but it was only five points in the end.

"We have a very young seconds side, some of them are only 19 or 20, and now is the time for them to play with the big boys.

"Five years ago, no one would have thought that anyone from Herefordshire could play in the Birmingham League and we did it for four years and were runners-up.

"We've had two or three players from other clubs that may be interested in joining us, so the future is rosy."

Despite Kedeer Ali making 87, West Bromwich Dartmouth were bowled out for 205, with Adam Hewlett claiming six wickets.

But Brockhampton were soon 17-4, with Irvine, Hewlett and captain Chris Boroughs all departing.

Henry Langford made 24, but he ended up being the top scorer as Brockhampton were bowled out for 104.

Eastnor have also been relegated from Division Two following defeat against Coventry & North Warwickshire.

Jonathan Miles smashed 108 off just 86 balls that helped Coventry post 222-5 off 45 overs.

Eastnor made a poor response, with Joseph Madyembwa and Shameer Ahmed going for one and three respectively.

When opener Suleyman Shah went for 18, Eastnor were 35-3.

Atiq Ur Rehman made a useful 41 off 45 balls and Kamran Mehran 31 off 40, but they couldn't stop the collapse and Eastnor were eventually bowled out for 161.

In the 2nd XI Leagues, Brockhampton lost to West Bromwich Dartmouth by three wickets, while Eastnor went down to a 63-run loss to Worcester.
