BEFORE their season drew to a close, Presteigne Cricket Club held a successful open day.

New community cricket coach Chris Roff was on hand to offer his experience and children had a chance to lean and enjoy the sport.

"When we heard Chris was available, we jumped at the chance of getting him involved," said Presteigne chairman Will Kleiser.

"We play against him in the Marches League so we know his quality as a player.”

"So with Chris as a qualified coach the cricket club was able to add the considerable coaching experience of Bill Higginson ex Middlesex CC and Club Vice Chairman to provide a wonderful insight into the game of cricket for the local children."

Club captain Alan Stocker added: “I am so pleased to see so many of the local kids learning and enjoying cricket.

"We really need to create more interest in the game and develop the talent in our youth so that they can be the future of our club.”

Further experience and guidance was given by club stalwarts Phil Davies, Mike Davies and James Chilman along with support from Jody Owen and Leanne Evans.

The event started with a warm up followed by some fielding drills.

Roff swiftly moved things on to then introduce the children to the art of bowling before everyone having a go at batting.

A fun game then ensured, which was enjoyed by everyone.
