BROMYARD captain Will Yarnold is predicting a bright future for his team despite being relegated from Division One of the Worcestershire County Cricket League.

The Herefordshire side's fate was sealed last Saturday when they went down to by four wickets to Pershore.

But Yarnold believes the side will be better equipped in Division Two, especially as they have a number of talented young players on their books.

"It's been a tough season, but we're trying to rebuild so going down is probably better for the team," said Yarnold.

"We are trying to get some of the young local lads playing first team cricket.

"We've got a 13-year-old called Jamie Abell who has come into the first team and has been brilliant.

"We want to give the kids a chance."

Bromyard only stayed up last year due to Harvington withdrawing from the league and have found it tough again this campaign.

Sr Lankan overseas star Dinusha Fernarndo has now left the club, but Yarnold says Bromyard will still be looking for an overseas star.

"We are looking for a young overseas player, but not a first class player," said Yarnold.

"We are trying to put more money back into the club and make it a better atmosphere."

Bromyard made 161 in their latest game, with David Taylor top scoring with 54.

But despite Abell snapping up three wickets, Pedmore managed to get to their required total with four wickets to spare.

Bromyard's second team also lost, meaning that their promotion hopes from Division Two are all but over.

Chris Simmonds and Mike Reece did both hit half centuries for Bromyard, but promotion rivals Coombs Wood ended up winning by three wickets.

Elsewhere, Ben Wheeler and Tom Coleman both hit 70's to help Colwall's first team beat Redditch, but Burghill & Tillington lost to Worcester Nomads.

Wormelow thrashed Feckenham by eight wickets in Division Two, but Bartestree & Lugwardine lost a thriller to Old Vigornians in Division Three.

The villagers lost two wickets in the last three balls to end up losing by just one run.

But Ross-on-Wye were celebrating after thrashing Cleobury Mortimer by 10 wickets.
