A SPECTACULAR collapse from Brockhampton saw them fail to secure over a strong-looking Ombersley side in the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League.

Having won the toss and put the visitors into bat, the Herefordshire outfit limited their Worcestershire opponents to 211-8 off 55 overs.

This represented a decent effort by Brockhampton as their opponents fielded names such as current Worcestershire players Gareth Andrew and Brett D'Oliveira.

It was D'Oliveira, grandson of the legendary cricketer Basil D'Oliveira, who fell first for 30, caught by Henry Langford off Nicholas Powell.

Liam Gwynne was then removed by Chris Boroughs, the first of his two wickets.

But it was Powell who impressed the most, finishing with 4-52 including dangerman Andrew for 45.

In reply, things were going smoothly for Brockhampton with openers Danny Irvine (64) and Henry Langford (50) chalking up an unbeaten century partnership.

But from 104-0, they slipped to 169-1 and the chance of victory was gone, with Ombersley securing a winning draw.

Only an unbeaten flurry from Adam Hewlett (24 not out) provided some respectability. The result means Brockhampton are now ninth.

Things were just as bleak in Division Two as Eastnor lost at home to third-placed Sutton Coldfield.

Choosing to bowl first, Eastnor made the perfect start with Sajid Ali and Raheel Lone removing both openers to leave Sutton 12-2.

Ali went on to take 3-55 as the visitors recovered to post 224-9.

Despite losing Andrew Fisher early, Eastnor began well, but any hopes they may have had of victory were soon extinguished as they slumped from 63-1 to 65-5, including a bizarre run-out of top-scorer Faisal Khalid for 30 who finished at the same end as partner Mahaaz Ahmed.

They were eventually dismissed for 136.
