JOE Crichard's 50 was in vain as Brockhampton crashed out of the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League Graham Williamson Trophy at the first hurdle.

Crichard smashed his half century off just 66 balls before being run out by Joph Young in the match against Ombersley last Saturday.

Brockhampton were put into bat after the away side chose to field after winning the toss.

And it proved to be a wise decision by the Worcestershire side as they had Brockhampton at 93-4 at one stage.

First, Harshad Patel was trapped leg before wicket off Edward Baylis before the Ombersley bowler got out Chris Powell after his strike could only find Oliver Uffindall.

Captain Chris Boroughs batted valiantly before he was clean bowled by Jonathan-James Dilley on 28 and then Nicolas Powell was run out.

Crichard soon got to his 50, but it was at the other end where the wickets were tumbling.

Matthew Veale was another player who was run out after making only one before Crichard went the same way.

Stu Jennings then came and went after being caught and bowled off his first ball to leave the villagers on 156-7.

Jack Aldous-Fountain was the next wicket to go after being bowled by Art Fiaz before Taylor Pugh and George Hill batted valiantly to take Brockhampton to 187-8 off their 40 overs.

In reply, opening pair Joshua Hayes and Uffindall batted fantastically before Hayes was caught lbw by Pugh on 35.

Frederick Wynn then soon went on seven to leave Ombersley on 85-2.

But the home side started to take the game away from Brockhampton, with Uffindall soon getting to his 50.

Aldous-Fountain did get the wicket of Nicholas Hammond after catching his own delivery, but Uffindall and Bayliss defended stoutly to ensure their team got to their target with 10 balls left.

Some of the county teams will be in friendly action this weekend in preparation of the new league season.

On Saturday, Brockhampton 2nd face Burghill and Tillington, while Bromyard entertain Coombs Wood, Colwall take on Painswick and Ross-on-Wye host county rivals Wormelow.
