WORMELOW have pulled of a coup in their bid to gain promotion to Division One of the Worcestershire County League next season.

The club have appointed former Herefordshire and Wales all-rounder Steve Watkins as their new coach.

Watkins, who is the Cricket Development Officer for Gwent and Mid Wales, will be working with the club's first team as they attempt to break out of Division Two for the first time.

"Wormelow is a young, progressive and ambitious club who are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2015," said Watkins, whose son Lee has come up through the club's junior ranks to become a first-team all-rounder.

"Wormelow have the facilities and potential to become a leading club in Herefordshire cricket and also in the Worcestershire and GB Liners Marches League.

"The short-term goal will be promotion to Division One and, in the longer term, to develop players in the senior and junior sections to form a strong base for the club across all teams."

One of Wormelow's junior players, Oliver Rogoff ,and Bartestree & Lugwardine junior Luke Tulacz have shared an award for best batsman in the county's under-13 age group.

Rogoff, who is 13, and Tulacz, 12, were also presented with their county colours, along with under-17 Taylor Pugh to become the only three of more than 240 representative and development players to receive the honour.

Rogoff, a pupil at Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, became the first player at U13 county level to score a century against Worcestershire, opening the batting and keeping wicket.

Tulacz, a Hereford Cathedral School pupil, is playing a year ahead of his age-group and made an unbeaten 113 playing for Bartestree & Lugwardine St Mary's in the GB Liners Marches League in the season just completed.

BROCKHAMPTON underlined their dominance of the Herefordshire Junior League under-nine season with a well-deserved victory on finals day at Pentland Gardens, seeing off the challenge of Bromyard and then South Division rivals Wormelow.

Brockhampton's fielding was outstanding all season and by 16 wickets in the final round they underlined their qualities.
