EASTNOR have ensured a further season in Division Two of the Birmingham League after a low-scoring home win against relegation-threatened Water Orton.

But the visitors would have felt that they had the upper hand after winning the toss, inviting Eastnor to bat and bowling them out of just 100.

"The pitch was a bit softer that it looked and it was overcast overhead for much of the day so the ball was doing a bit, too," said Eastnor stalwart Malcolm Hughes.

"But there was some pretty ordinary batting as well."

Former Herefordshire seamer Lesroy Irish (4-28) made early inroads for Water Orton, dismissing both openers with just three on the board.

Five Eastnor batsman reached double-figures but none was able to stay around long enough to play a major innings.

Warwickshire Academy youngster Sukhjit Singh (4-16) wrapped up the Eastnor innings and then got the Water Orton reply off to a fine start with 37.

But fine bowling by all of the Eastnor attack kept wickets falling steadily and the home side eventually sneaked in by 14 runs.

Shameer Ahmed (4-8) led the way with fine support from Sajid Ali (3-31) and Atiq ur Rehman (3-13).
