BARTESTREE & Lugwardine captain Ben Simpkin believes Nick Frith’s form with the bat “has been coming for a couple years now.”

Despite a duck on Saturday, Frith has scored 590 runs this season at an average of just over 49 and is the club's leading run-scorer.

Simpkin said: “He’s showed potential in recent years but not quite delivered.

“This season he goes out there and you think he’s going to score runs every time.”

Last season Frith scored just 227 runs all season but he puts this down to having to balance cricket with his academic studies.

Frith said: “It’s been going really well, I’ve just pushed on from last year when I did alright but never got going properly.

“Last season I could only play half a season due to university and I think if you play with the same players week in and week out you are going to play better.”

Frith is also the cricket development officer at Bartestree and he thinks the future is bright for the relatively young club.

He said: “Considering we’re only a 15-year-old club, the facilities we’ve got are excellent.

“The youth set-up have got loads of players coming through and today, Ryan Trattell who is only 14, is playing in the first-team.”
