TWO former Warwickshire stars played key roles as Berkswell saw off Brockhampton by 132 runs in the Birmingham League Premier Division.

Darren Maddy scored 106 at better than a run a ball, facing just 99 deliveries and striking 12 fours and three sixes in his innings.

He was joined in a stand of 101 for the fifth Berkswell wicket with skipper Dominic Ostler (42) as second-placed Berkswell racked up 273-7 from their 55 overs.

Will Barrett (3-87) and Callum Stewart (2-47) were the pick of the Brockhampton attack.

The visitors were quickly in trouble with Adam Hewlett and Chris Boroughs back in the pavilion with only five runs on the board.

Ben Stebbings quickly followed and although opener Chris Powell, whose 39 came off just 31 balls with eight fours, gave the innings some impetus, wickets kept falling on a regular basis.

Nick Powell (31) and Tom Austwick (28) scored lower-order runs while Barrett (12) also got into double-figures.

But the Berkswell attack kept chipping away with Maddy (2-43), who played three Tests and eight one-day internationals for England, collecting a couple of wickets as Brockhampton subsided for 161.
