FORMER England skipper Mike Smith will be guest speaker tonight (Thursday) at Herefordshire Cricket Society.

Smith was one of England’s most popular cricket captains and he also played rugby union for his country.

Smith, now 80 years old, played 50 Tests for the England cricket team and is a former Warwickshire County Cricket Club chairman.

The meeting is taking place in Hereford United’s vicepresidents’ club, starting at 7.30pm.

Smith was the chairman of Warwickshire between 1991 and 2003 and an International Cricket Council match referee from 1991 to 1996. He was the Leicestershire captain from 1951 to 1955 and Warwickshire skipper between 1956 and 1972. He played rugby union for England against Wales in 1956.
