PROLIFIC Wormelow batsman Jamie Banfield narrowly failed to break the record for the most runs in a Worcestershire League Division Two season.

Banfield totalled 1,221 league runs – the highest in a season for Wormelow – but 14 shy of the divisional record set by Burghill’s Alex Hedges in 2010.

Banfield, who has expressed his intention of returning to the Kennel Field club for the 2014 season, bagged Wormelow’s batting award and a special honour at the club’s presentation evening last Friday.

The departing Tom Bevan was given a standing ovation as he collected the clubman honour for a fifth successive year.

Tim Boulter snapped up the bowling award, with Lee Watkins winning the player of the year trophy, and Elliott Williams, the young player honour.

Meanwhile, Tom Cutler is the new second-team skipper, replacing Luke Jones, and Ian Herbert has taken over the club captain’s role from Clive Price.
