GARNONS completed the first leg of their GB Liners Marches League double by clinching the Division One title with a 112-run win over Weobley.

Experienced all-rounder Alan Jones led the way for the champions, scoring 37 in Garnons’ 198 all out and following up with 7-23 as Weobley were dismissed for 86 - See Sport 7.

Weobley now return to Division Two where they will be joined by Marden, whose 10-wicket reverse to Luctonians allowed the Mortimer Park club to cement second-place in the table.

Paul Davies (4-26) led the Luctonians attack as Marden were dismissed for 108 and the visitors romped to success in the 20th over with a fine partnership between Jack Ettinger (67 not out) and Duncan Platford (32no).

Goodrich complete the top three after a high-scoring win over Crickhowell. The league’s leading run-scorer, Andy Brown blasted 98, taking his tally to 838 as Goodrich racked up 306-6 from their 45 overs.

But the top score of the day came from Crickhowell all-rounder Nick Francis, whose unbeaten 114 was unable to prevent an 85-run reverse.

Builth Wells beat Hay by five wickets to hold on to fifth place in the table with Dales, who beat Kington by 50 runs in sixth.

Dales’ Wayne Bufton was the day’s most successful bowler in Division One with his 6-25 helping to dismiss Kington for 127.

In Division Two, Brockhampton were pipped to the title after an unexpected reverse at struggling Colwall 3rd, allowing Talgarth, whose game with Llandrindod Wells was called off after the visitors were unable to raise a team, to claim top spot.

Kington 2nd, who beat relegated Moccas, and newcomers Knighton-on-Teme are the promoted sides in Division Three.

Knighton’s win over Hereford City Lads Club was the prelude to the announcement that the city side are withdrawing from the league, meaning that, as things stand, there will be no senior cricket at the Racecourse next season.

There will, however, be a Lads Club side in Division Three next season after Widemarsh Lads Club clinched the second promotion spot with a nine-wicket win over Burghill and Tillington 3rd.

Glangwryney took the title after a similarly emphatic nine-wicket win over Bartestree and Lugwardine St Mary’s. l Hereford Times sports writer Ian Morgan showed that he can perform on the pitch as well as off it with a century for Monmouth 2nd against Machen.

The left-handed opener hit an unbeaten 102 from 146 balls, studded with 14 boundaries, to help his side to a 104-run win in Second Xl Division Three of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League.
