BROMYARD must be rueing their poor start to the season after another win maintained their faint promotion hopes in Division One of the Worcestershire League.

The Flagonners Green club’s win over Hagley was their 11th in their last 14 unbeaten outings that have followed on from a dreadful start which featured five straight defeats.

Second-placed Bromyard trail leaders Astwood Bank by 41 points with just two matches remaining and so it would now take a major change to alter those placings.

However, Bromyard are continuing to press their case and their latest success could hardly have been more conclusive, chasing down Hagley’s 160 for the loss of just a single wicket.

Zahid Saeed (4-22) and Will Yarnold (4-33) starred with the ball as Hagley were bowled out in the 42nd over.

Skipper Dinusha Fernando (81 not out) then took over to pilot his side to victory in stands with Ryan Tongue (35) and Edd Oliver (30no).

One of Bromyard’s early-season defeats was at the hands of county rivals Burghill and Tillington.

But the fixture is unlikely to be repeated next season as the Brick House Farm side look set for the drop after just a single season in the top flight.

Despite 42 from Kiwi Hamish Cooke, Burghill were dismissed for just 101 by Worcester Dominies who knocked off the runs for the loss of only three wickets.

Barring a last-minute tail-off in form, Burghill will be replaced in Division One next season by Colwall, who underlined their promotion credentials with a seven-wicket win over Rushwick.

Jacob Rodgers (4-31) and Max Backhouse (3-33) starred with the ball for Colwall, who were guided to victory by skipper James Abel (52) and Tom Coleman (51).

Second-placed Colwall now lead their nearest challengers Enville by 21 points after the Staffordshire side’s own promotion prospects were damaged by a five-wicket reverse at Wormelow.

The visitors had batted well to compile 248-7 and looked well placed after reducing Wormelow to 110-5.

But then an excellent unbroken stand of 139 for the sixth wicket between skipper Ben Owens (100no) and Tom Bevan (53no) guided the mid-table villagers to victory.

Ross are also ending their Division Three season in a flurry of runs with James Tiffen (130no) and Harry Porter (100no) hitting unbeaten centuries in a winning draw with Himley.

Luke Sparrow must be sorry that Bartestree and Lugwardine’s Division Four season has concluded after he ended the campaign with a mountain of runs and wickets.

He wound up his season with 102 as Bartestree, who finished in fourth place in the table, hammered champions Old Vigornians by nine wickets.

Canon Frome ended their season with another run-feast in a winning draw with Harborne 5th.

Andy Rogers (84no) and Alec Backhouse (72) were the main contributors to Frome’s impressive 317-3.

But with 14-year-old Tarush Gupta (105) and 13-year-old Karan Bharaj (93) sharing a second-wicket stand of 239, the Midlanders looked in with a chance of victory until Luke Cottrell (5-59) helped to apply the brakes.
