KNIGHTON-on-Teme have been accepted into the GB Liners Marches League.

The village club, near Tenbury Wells, finished third in the Worcestershire County League Division Six last summer.

Marches League spokesman Derrick Jones said clubs must be careful not to confuse the newcomers with Knighton from Powys.

“We have accepted Knighton-on-Teme into the league and they will be playing in Division Three subject to how the voting goes at the annual meeting.”

The annual meeting takes place next Monday (November 19) at the GWRSA Club in Barton Yard, Hereford, starting at 7.30pm.

Jones added: “Knighton-on-Teme is about 30 miles from Hereford and I am sure that other clubs in the league will enjoy visiting a new ground.”

Herefordshire Over-50s player John Humphries, who represents Knighton-on-Teme, has given his team-mates an insight into the Marches League.

“There were no negative responses when we talked about changing leagues,” said Knighton stalwart Dave Pullen.

“There might be a bit of travelling to three or four teams in the Marches League but it looks like there would only be one long distance in each division,” he said.

“We were going to Harborne, Coombs Wood and Netherton in the Worcestershire League and they are all big distances from Knighton-on-Teme.”
