WHITECROSS High School have enjoyed individual and team success at regional level in athletics.

Having successfully had a total of 24 athletes through to represent Herefordshire in the Hereford & Worcester Schools finals in Worcester at Under-14 and Under-16 level, 14 athletics did likewise in the Under-13s.

Of the individuals who represented Hereford, Year 11 athlete Levi Hughes competed for the Midlands at the national finals in Gateshead, where he came 10th out of 18 in the triple jump.

Hughes, meanwhile, jumped a massive 13.50m at Worcester, which ranks him 11th in the UK in his age group.

His coaches tip him to improve his ranking further still and he’s been head hunted by the prestigious Birchfield Harriers Athletics club in Birmingham who have produced many household names in British athletics over the years.

Whitecross also enjoyed team success in the English Schools Athletics Association Track & Field Cup.

The Junior Boys team, made up of pupils from Year 8, came third at their Hereford & Worcester round, beaten only by independent schools from Worcester in the shape of Kings and Royal Grammar School.

The boys travelled to the Midland B finals in Solihull where they came away as winners of the event, the first time a Herefordshire school has competed at regional level in the ESAA Cup.
