HEREFORD and County Athletics Club honoured their members at an awards ceremony held at Hereford Rowing Club.

Richard Wydenbach, a retired PE teacher at Weobley High School and a regular announcer at the club, presented the awards and spoke of his enjoyment watching young athletes grow in confidence and developing their athletic abilities.

He was presented with a book token to thank him for his help and support throughout the year.

A total of 24 awards were handed out on the night, including best male and female in each age category, as well as coach of the year, club person, most improved and best newcomer. The meritorious service award went to Tony Williams for the second time in as many years for his dedication to the club.

Young Athlete of the Year was handed to Sylvia Misztal for her success in sprints, the 300m hurdles, triple jump and relays.

She also competed for English Schools this year.

The male award went to under-13 star Patrick Morgan for his outstanding performances throughout the season.
