Ross-on-Wye Rugby Club fight out 8-8 draw at Cainscross in South-West Division Gloucester Two

Cainscross 8 pts Ross-on-Wye 8

A BRAWL inspired a late Ross-on- Wye comeback - but spokesman Paul Haley insists the players must now come out fighting from the first whistle.

The south Herefordshire outfit were trailing 8-3 when a mass brawl on the pitch suddenly sparked them into action.

“Ross had accused Cainscross of foul play earlier in the game and, after another incident, the team took matters into their own hands,” said Haley.

“This seemed to stir us into playing some rugby and we dominated the last 10 minutes,” he said.

Flanker Casey Morgan rescued a South-West Division Gloucester Two draw for mid-table Ross.

He scored in the corner after good approach work from Gareth Holdsworth and Denver Rollings. The touchline conversion slid wide.

Haley added: “We will look for a significant improvement in performance for the visit of Cheltenham Civil Service this Saturday.”

Cainscross and Ross struggled in last weekend’s scrappy match.

Craig Powell’s penalty put Ross ahead but Cainscross replied on the stroke of half-time.

Cainscross crashed over to score the opening try and take a 8-3 lead early in the second-half. But Ross’ fighting finish salvaged a draw.
