FC United of Manchester host Hereford United at Bury in FA Cup

HEREFORD United have been hoping for years for an away FA Cup draw in Manchester against United.

But now that this has finally happened, it is not quite as they might have foreseen.

The Bulls will travel in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on October 20 to take on FC United of Manchester, the offshoot side formed by Red Devils supporters who were fed up with rarely being able to see their side play at football’s traditional time, 3pm on a Saturday.

The new club, which was formed in 2005, has risen up through the leagues and is now in the Evostik Northern Premier League Premier Division.

They have been beaten in the play-off final in each of the last two seasons and are currently in sixth place.

They play at Bury’s Gigg Lane ground and two years ago made quite an impact in the FA Cup, beating Rochdale 3-2 in the first round and then holding Brighton to an away 1-1 draw before losing the replay 4-0.

On-loan Bulls striker Phil Marsh, who will be eligible to play in the FA Cup tie after his club Forest Green Rovers agreed as part of the loan deal, was the Manchester club’s leading scorer with 10 goals in the 2009-10 season.
