Errors costly as Luctonians beaten by National Two North leaders Stourbridge

Stourbridge 43 pts Luctonians 7.
A SUCCESSION of errors consigned Luctonians to a heavy defeat at National Two North leaders Stourbridge.
The high-flyers ran in six tries in the first ever league fixture between the two sides but Luctonians only had themselves to blame with mistakes by the Herefordshire side accounting for all of the scores. Stourbridge had to show all of their defensive capabilities after being pinned back in their own half for the first 40 minutes.
It took the home side 17 minutes to make their first incursion into Luctonians territory and it brought a penalty converted by Caolan Ryan.
Drew Cheshire made a couple of probing runs without success before, on 26 minutes, a loose pass by Charlie Meredith was picled off for Nathan Bressington to score an unconverted try.
Luctonians failed to capitalise when home lock Robbie Hurrell was yellow-carded as Matt Hackley was dispossessed in the Stourbridge half by centre Will Hurrell who raced 70 meters to score in the corner. Ryan kicked the extra points.
An attempt to run a penalty from their own goal-line at the start of the second period led to disaster for Luctonians when Hurrell seized on an attempted chip to stroll in for a try which Ryan again converted.
Skipper Alex Davidson raised Luctonians hopes with a try which Dan Smith converted. But hopes of a revival were quickly extinguished when Bressington picked off another wayward pass from prop Anthony Marfell to race from his own 22 to score under the posts. Ryan again added the extra points.
More lost possession let in winger Jamie Hearn to race in for a try which Ryan converted and, with Smith yellow-carded, Stourbridge notched another long-range converted score to round off a conclusive victory.
On Saturday, Luctonians entertain Leicester Lions at their Mortimer Park ground.
