Wellington enjoy West Midlands League Premier Division success at Willenhall

Willenhall 1 Wellington 2.

WELLINGTON hit back after two defeats on the road to see off the West Midlands League Premier Division’s basement club.

Willenhall, who had at one point reached the Premier Division of the Southern League, have been in free fall in recent seasons.

“We’re happy with the three points,” said Wellington chairman Phil Smith. “But Willenhall are not looking good at the moment. They have seven or eight new players and the club is a bit disrupted.”

Wellington took the lead on four minutes when Ben Fischer capitalised on good work by Pete Wood.

But Willenhall were back on terms two minutes later when a free-kick was headed in. Wellington sealed the points after 20 minutes when Aaron Morgan’s pass split the defence for Saul Thomas to fire home.

Wellington meanwhile are carrying on their search for a new manager.

“Marc Priday is doing a great job for us and everyone is rallying round to support him,” said Smith.

“But, although we know he won’t walk out on us, he doesn’t want to do the job permanently.”

Anyone interested in the Wellington manager’s job can call Smith on 07770 324098.
