Hereford Westside see off Willenhall Wanderers

WESTSIDE’S third game of the season in Division Two of the West Midlands Netball League brought a convincing 57-18 win against Willenhall Wanderers.

A slight change in the starting line up saw Helen Hancock at GS, Ellie Smith GA, Stacey Barker WA, Anna Mulderrig C, Emily Davies WD, Aimee Phillips GD and Steph Snowzell at GK.

Westside got off to a good start with both their defensive and attacking circle dominating from the whistle.

Snowzell and Phillips worked hard to gain many turnovers in defence with shooters Smith and player-of-the-match Hancock linking well together to convert the turnovers.

After the first break Westside took back to the court 12-3 ahead.

Throughout the second quarter, Westside looked the convincing leaders and were turning many balls over in centre court with interceptions from Barker and Mulderrig who kept their calm and found space to feed the shooters who continued to dominate.

With Westside leading 31-8 at half-time, Debbie Bowdley came on at GS with Snowzell coming out to GD, switching with Phillips.

After the change Westside really started to pull away, making interceptions in defence and bringing the ball up with fine linking play between Davies, Mulderrig and Barker to retain their lead at three-quarter time.

For the final quarter, Hancock, whose game was characterised by movement and accurate shooting, came back on at GA, Smith moved to WA and Mulderrig and Davies switched with Westside producing their best quarter as they finished strongly.

Wanderers scored just two goals thanks to strong defence throughout the court and great movement from Bowdley at shooter.

On Saturday,Westside take on local rivals Recycles as they look to continue their winning streak.
