British Masters Welterweight champion trains with Wye Police Amateur Boxing Club

WELTERWEIGHT British Masters champion Chris Higgs dropped into Hereford for a training session.
Higgs’ family is originally from Breinton and he was delighted to join in with fighters at Hereford’s Wye Police Amateur Boxing Club.
“I was overwhelmed by the support from everyone in Hereford who came to see me gain the title earlier this year,” said Higgs.
“I always love coming to the Wye club because it’s a fantastic facility with great coaches and boxers.”
Higgs’ next title fight is at the GL Centre in Gloucester on November 24. He was training with Wye boxers who are also preparing for their own international show in Hereford in March.
Wye club chairman Richard Roberts said: “We are the only club in the Midlands that holds an international charity show.
“We are already taking calls from clubs trying to get boxers into the team.
“It’s always good to have Hereford lads on the show and any person interested in coming along and having a go at boxing will be made welcome.”
Fighters at Wye’s show will, once again, be battling it out for The Hereford Times Cup.
“The show is not to be missed and the cup is getting the reputation it deserved,” said Roberts.
