Herefordshire's Paralympians preparing for High Town parade

HEREFORDSHIRE’S Paralympians enjoyed a civic reception at thePoint4 in Hereford.

Swimmers Sascha and Nyree Kindred, shooter James Bevis and members of the Hereford-based GB Blind football team attended last Wednesday’s event, receiving plaques and certificates to mark the county’s recognition of their achievements.

And Hereford is now gearing up for the public parade in High Town at noon this Saturday.

Sascha and Nyree both won silver at London 2012 and James secured a silver, while the blind football team finished seventh.

Gold medal-winning discus thrower Josie Pearson was unable to make the civic event - she was on holiday in Ibiza.

But she will be in High Town this weekend.

Herefordshire Council chairman Olwyn Barnett, who organised last week’s event, said: “The dedication our athletes have displayed in training and competing in these games is to be commended.

“The county is very proud of their achievements; this celebration has formally marked their homecoming and is a demonstration of how inspired we all are in the county by their success at the Games.”

Leominster MP Bill Wiggin and the Mayor of Hereford, Brian Wilcox, also attended the event at thePoint4.

The previous day, Hereford City Council approved a Mayor’s Commendation to Games stars Sascha, Nyree, James, Josie and GB Blind football captain David Clarke.

On Saturday, county sports fans will have a chance to meet and talk to the athletes, take pictures and celebrate their homecoming.
