Triple success for Wye Valley Runner Luke Mason in track championships

WYE Valley Runner Luke Mason has swept the board in the Herefordshire Amateur Athletics Track Championship for 10,000 metres, 5,000m and one-mile.

Mason recorded victories in all three races, winning the 10,000m in 35 minutes 16.2 seconds from Alan Mayo-Evans, unattached, 36.31.8, and also romping home in the 5,000m in 16.15.

He completed his treble success with a time of 4.49.2 in the one-mile where Mayo-Evans, as he also had been in the 5,000m, finished in the runner-up spot.

In the veteran man category Richard Hughes, of Hereford Couriers, won the 10,000m in 36.34.2 and the 5,000m in 17.24.2. He then came second to Stuart Moore, of Wye Valley, in the one-mile. Moore won in 5.13.2 with Hughes 5.3 seconds behind.

In the senior women age group, Suzanne Turvey, of Croft Ambrey, won the 10,000m in 41.27.4 and the 5,000m in 18.40.6.

The veteran women category saw another treble by Sarah Holton, of Hereford Triathlon Club, winning the 10,000m in 44.55.05, the 5,000m in 21.10.2 and the one-mile in 6.7.8.

Junior woman Clara Evans, of Hereford and County AC, won the 10,000m in 40.22.2 and one-mile in 5.27.5. Christine Jones won the 5,000m.

One other notable performance was under-13 boy Oscar Hewitt, of Hereford and County AC, who won the one-mile in 5.53.9.
