Luctonians' fine National 2 North start continues with win over Bromsgrove
3:30pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in Sport
Luctonians 31 pts Bromsgrove 7.
LUCTONIANS’ successful start to the National Two North season continued with a second successive bonus-point victory.
The home side’s early dominance was confirmed after 12 minutes when winger Drew Cheshire burst through the centre to score under the posts, giving fly-half Will Burton an easy conversion.
A forward pass deprived winger Alex Rumsey of another try soon afterwards but, from the resulting scrum, Bromsgrove lost possession and Paul Hulland went over for an unconverted try.
Then, after 25 minutes, a slick three-quarter passing movement saw Cheshire claim his fifth try in two games.
Bromsgrove capitalised when Rumsey was sin-binned for not retreating 10 metres with fly-half Jonathan Critchlow breaking through from the resulting penalty to score under the posts.
He also added the extra points but missed the chance of a second try just before the break when he knocked-on from what seemed a certain try-scoring position.
Bromsgrove were unable to turn possession into points at the start of the second period and, after 55 minutes, Rumsey redeemed himself for his earlier misdemeanour when Cheshire made a midfield break and sent him over for the bonus point try.
Burton added the conversion.
Bromsgrove failed to take advantage of several penalties and the last word was left with Hulland adding his second try from the last play of the game, touching down for a five-metre scrum.
Burton again added the extras to confirm an emphatic win.
