Herefordshire bowlers defeated heavily by Worcestershire

HEREFORDSHIRE were heavily defeated by local rivals Worcestershire at Brimfield, going down 140- 105 with the visitors winning five of the six rinks.

Herefordshire’s only success was the rink skipped by Dave Holloway, with fine play from Marion Wheatley who had an excellent match at third after being called on when a home player withdrew due to illness.

Glyn Williams at lead outbowled his opposite number and was well supported by Jack Gray at second.

They outplayed the visitors, conceding only six ends, and after leading 14-6 at the halfway stage, extended their lead for a 31-10 victory.

John Bevan's rink led 13-8 after 12 ends but Worcs. won the next four ends, scoring 11 shots to lead 19-13, and finished with a 21-17 win.

The rink skipped by Keith Price was 21-4 down after 13 ends, but although they fought back they finished 22-13 down.

Dave Turner's rink were always behind and lost 21-11 and the rink skipped by Don Pugh were down 14-4 after 10 ends and finally lost 29-15 The highest defeat was suffered by John Colley's rink who lost 37-18.
