8:13am Thursday 9th August 2012 in Sport
Colwall looked set for a morale-boosting win when they dismissed hosts Oldswinford for just 93 in Division 1 of the Worcestershire County League.
But, despite reaching 62-4 in response, the Malvern Hills club tumbled into the relegation zone after sliding to 86 all out.
James Nightingale (5-37) and Jonathan Hunter (3-38) turned in good stints with the ball for Colwall but, aside from a solid stand of 49 for the fifth wicket between Barrett Price (37) and Tim Riley, the visitors’ batting was swept aside all too easily.
A superb all-round performance from Worcester Nomads’ Liam O’Driscoll destroyed Bromyard ’s hopes in a massive 215-run defeat. O’Driscoll blasted 16 fours and five sixes in an 86-ball 129 before picking up the first five Bromyard wickets in a return of 6-29.
Burghill & Tillington’s Kiwi paceman Byron Newton ran through the Feckenham batting to take 6-22 as the home side were dismissed for 85.
The villagers eased home by six wickets to remain on course for promotion from Division 2.
Wormelow raised their hopes of avoiding the drop at the other end of the table by hammering basement club Romsley & Hunnington by nine wickets.
Shaun Waldron (4-30) bowled well as the visitors were dismissed for 155 and Tom Bevan (96 not out) and Aditya Saha (39 not out) then shared an unbeaten century stand as Wormelow coasted home.
James Tiffen (57) and Charlie Hiram (4-31) played key roles as Ross maintained their Division 4 promotion push with a 63-run win over Old Hill 3rd. And Canon Frome’s revival, which has taken them up to fourth place in the Division 5 table, continued with a 89-run win over Stourbridge 3rd.
Andy Rogers (88) led the way with the bat as Frome piled up 263-9 before dismissing the visitors for 174.
Fifteen-year-old Jack Stockdale performed the hat-trick for Burghill & Tillington 2nd in their seven-wicket success against Birlingham.
