Brockhampton batsman Henry Langford set for MCCA KO Trophy final appearance

BROCKHAMPTON batsman Henry Langford (pictured) is set for an appearance in the MCCA Knockout Cup Final.

The left-hander is expected to take his place in the middle-order when Wiltshire take on Cumberland in the final at the late Sir Paul Getty’s Wormsley ground on April 29.

Wiltshire won a thrilling semi-final against Staffordshire at Leek when Langford’s bowling struck a decisive blow.

Staffordshire had amassed 280-6 from their 50 overs with openers Ed Kilbee (126) and Jay Levitt (76) compiling an opening stand of 158.

Going in during the closing stages of the run-chase, Langford was dismissed for nine.

Staffordshire were in serious trouble at 72-5 until the advent of Ben McGuire changed the game.

The all-rounder smashed 100 off just 62 balls with nine sixes and four fours and, in partnership with Paul Goodwin (62), appeared set to win the game. But Langford had McGuire caught by Owen Alsop with 50 still needed and the Midlands county were dismissed from the penultimate ball of the innings, still three short of victory.

In the other semi-final, Cumberland beat Dorset by four wickets.
