Eastnor skipper Clive Chadhani dismisses Birmingham and District Cricket League title talk
9:30am Friday 13th July 2012 in Sport
Eastnor skipper Clive Chadhani hit a match-winning knock but he isn’t getting carried away about his side’s title chances.
The Herefordshire outfit defeated Halesowen by seven wickets in a rain-hit Birmingham and District League Division Two clash.
In a reduced 25-overs-a-side match, Shahid (4-12) and Jabran (3-4), rolled through hosts Halesowen, who made just 64 all out.
In reply, Eastnor’s Chadhani made an unbeaten 29 to steer his side home, and into third position in the table.
Chadhani said: “With my batting, I decided to take responsibility, forget what was going on around me and not to play any reckless shots.
“It was challenging to bat on and offered more to the seamers.
“Our guys bowled their usual good line and length but the turning point was when we ran their captain out.
“We knew he likes to work the ball around getting singles and this was the perfect pitch for that.
“If he had have stayed in they probably would have made 100.”
Just 18 points from the top, Eastnor now face rock-bottom Evesham this Saturday.
But Chadhani admitted: “There is no walk in the park in this league.
“We have been complacent at times and we have to put that right.
“The weather is a deciding factor this season as any team can lose on the day. A lot of it depends on who wins the toss.”
But a cautious Chadhani added: “It would be premature to think we could win this league.
“There is a lot of work to be done — there is just 58 points between first place and 11th.”
