Colwall and Bromyard prepare for Worcestershire County Cricket League Division One derby at Stowe Lane

COUNTY pride will be at stake when Colwall host Bromyard in a Worcestershire County League Division One derby this Saturday.

Both sides need the points for different reasons.

Colwall lie just 10 points above the relegation zone, while Bromyard are pushing for promotion.

Colwall captain James Abel is optimistic going into the match at Stowe Lane.

“I am quietly confident about our chances this weekend,” he said.

“Our batting has been firing and even though it will be a tough match, if we can get some early wickets and put some pressure on them, the momentum should go with us.”

The earlier fixture this season was rained off and Bromyard captain Zahid Saeed is hoping it won’t be another wash out.

“We are always keen to play because if the weather finishes the game, we only get five points,” said Bromyard’s Zahid.

Abel said that the pitch should be fine for the weekend, depending on the weather, but admitted it had been a frustrating summer.

He said: “It’s going to be a hard ask to avoid relegation but we have got the team and individuals to do it. I think we can maintain our position in this league.”

Bromyard are just 25 points from the top and a potential promotion to the Birmingham League.

“We are very confident going into this game and we believe we can win the league,” said Zahid.

“But it is so close at the top and it is all to play for.

“One win against a top side and you are right alongside them.”
