Presteigne race ace Chaz Davies thrilled with World Superbike podium finish
5:00pm Friday 6th July 2012 in Sport By Ian Morgan
CHAZ Davies says he’s fulfilled his childhood dreams after finishing third — and standing on the podium — at the World Superbike meeting in Aragon.
The Presteigne ace admitted it was a dream come true after edging out championship leader Max Biaggi to climb the world Superbike podium for the first time.
“I have watched WSBK since I was a kid and I have followed it as if it was my religion,” said Davies, who was fourth in race one and third in race two.
“In race two I was only thinking about improving a 10th by a 10th.
When I found myself in third I tried to do my best.
“I even had the time to get mad at myself for a couple of mistakes.
“When I reached the top three, I decided to fight without over-reaching.
I have to say that I respect Max Biaggi and all that he has done.
“I chose to fight with him but I always wanted to be clean, showing him the wheel and overtake with no risks because of his position in the championship.
“Last year I was in his position and it was different for me, that is why I knew a mistake could be very annoying.”
Davies’ beating of Biaggi to third in race two in Spain came after the Italian, the 2010 World Superbike champion, had toasted victory in race one.
Biaggi still leads with 248.5 points and Davies is 10th with 78.
“I have a good feeling with the bike, even with the aerodynamics that are not a question of being small or big,” said Davies.
“I’m a bit taller but my position on the seat allowed me to ride with no aerodynamic holes and that is important.”
He added: “As for the future I have no special goals. I’ll fight weekend by weekend with the confidence that I can always do better.”
