Hereford United striker Sean Canham is back from the cold

HEREFORD United’s forgotten striker Sean Canham says he is glad to be back at Edgar Street — but never wanted to leave in the first place.

Canham was frozen out of former manager Jamie Pitman’s squads last term and has made just 21 appearances for the Bulls since being signed by Simon Davey two years ago.

But the former Notts County man, who signed a short term contract extension at Edgar Street last week, says he hopes the arrival of new management duo Martin Foyle and Andy Porter will coincide with an upturn in his and the club’s fortunes.

“I’m happy to be staying; I have a point to prove to some people,” said the 27- year-old.

“I never wanted to leave in the first place but I was kind of forced out.”

Only last week, Foyle said he felt sorry for Canham, adding he’d had “a rough deal”.

Last summer Pitman placed Canham and now-Luton defender Janos Kovacs on the transfer list to free up cash, saying “my hands are tied to some extent until they go”.

Looking for first team football, Canham teamed up with Conference side Bath City, scoring nine times in 24 games.

“I think it was worth the move,” he added.

“I’ve recently spoken with both Martin (Foyle) and Andy (Porter) who have good credentials in this league.

“They know what they are doing. I just hope I can perform well enough to earn an extension.”
