4:30pm Wednesday 27th June 2012 in Sport
JAMES Rose, of Severn AC, clinched the overall series prize after the third and final race of Hereford Couriers’ 5k Road Race Series.
All three races were well supported, with club athletes, including several coming from a good distance, joined by less experienced local runners, to test themselves over the demanding 3.1-mile distance.
While Rose was the overall winner, the fastest time went to Matt Granger, of Tipton Harriers, who notched an impressive 15 minutes 27 seconds in the second race.
Female series winner was Clara Evans, of Hereford and County AC, who won all three races with an excellent best performance of 18.12 in the first race.
Other local award winners were Rich Hughes (Hereford Couriers) taking third overall in the series, Andy Taylor (Hereford Tri) first veteran 40, David Rees (Hay Hotfooters) first vet 60, Brian Symonds (Wye Valley Runners) first vet 65, Oliver Taylor (unattached) first under 15, Diane Rowlands (Wye Valley Runners) first vet 40, Joanne Preece (Presteigne Pacers) 1st vet 45 and Carol Stocker (Presteigne Pacers) first vet 50.
In the three-to-score male team race, Hereford Couriers dominated to win three out of three, with Eliot Taylor, Rich Hughes, Luke James, Mike Link and Dave Williams all making the scoring team at least once, backed by the fast-improving Richie Bamford and the consistent Neil Lewis.
Hereford Couriers would like to thank Halo Leisure and the staff at the leisure centre for their invaluable support in promoting the race series.
