RACING AHEAD The View from Hereford Racecourse with Keith Ottesen Congratulations to At The Races television pundit Emily Jones who recently won the 20,000 Euro Arabian horse race at Hoppegarten in Germany.

In winning this prestigious race, Emily, no stranger to Hereford Racecourse, has qualified for the final of the HH Sheika Bint Mubarak World Ladies Championship at Abu Dhabi in November and the winning jockey will receive a Mercedes sports car.

That same week, Emily was invited to be a moderator at the Arabian Horse Racing International Conference overseeing " A spirited debate about Women in Racing'' and delegates came from all over the world.

There's not much you could tell Emily about the role of women jockeys as she has done it all.

She has ridden winners on the flat, over hurdles, over the jumps, between-the flags and she has been a successful rider in the world of Arabian horse racing.

Emily, who currently voices British horse racing every day to Australia, Singapore and South Africa has come a long way since she rode her first winner at a point-to-point in 1989.

Back then she used to ride out for Welsh trainers Bernard Llewellyn and Dai Burchell by day and pull pints at her local pub by night.

She's worked hard for her success and, at an age when most jockettes have hung up their riding boots, it seems the best has yet to come for this dedicated horse woman.
