Fans endorse new Hereford United boss Martin Foyle
HEREFORD United’s fans seem to have given new boss Martin Foyle the thumbs-up, based on his performance at Monday’s fans’ forum in the Starlite Rooms.
The former York City and Port Vale chief answered questions frankly, informatively and with a degree of humour for more than 100 Bulls supporters who packed into the club’s new facility.
“He has some very progressive ideas and has seen and done it all before,” said Roger Townley, a fan of 67 yearsstanding who travelled up from his Somerset home for the forum.
“He wants to see football played at Edgar Street which gives me great hope for the future.
“He has ideas about the sort of players who will do well at Hereford in the Conference and he knows the Conference well himself.
“He has good contacts and is a breath of fresh air.
“We could have done with him some time ago.”
Eddie Pobiega sounded a note of caution.
“I am very impressed that they are so open with us but, again, talk is cheap and we want to see the results.” he said.
“I’m not saying they will not give us the results but a good salesman always talks well and you have to have the product.
“But Martin Foyle is a very positive man and has a very positive second in command as well.
“From my point of view, a successful season would see us in the play-offs but it’s very difficult to say because we don’t really know what we are up against.”
Sandy Kinnersley’s spirits were lifted by the evening.
“He has made me feel quite confident about the season,” she said.
“He seems to be quite open with us and to understand the challenges we have got.
“He also seems to be committed to making things work well.”
Former VP Club chairman Richard Howard said: “I thought that Martin was extremely articulate and that his points came over very well.
“He obviously knows his football and his reputation stands way ahead of him.
“I feel good for the coming season.”
