Herefordshire over-50s thrashed by Gloucestershire
7:30am Thursday 21st June 2012 in Sport
HEREFORDSHIRE suffered a crushing defeat when they travelled to Shirehampton to take on Gloucestershire in an ECB 50+ Championship group match.
The county side were skittled out for just 37 and were beaten by 10 wickets by a home side which included former Gloucestershire CCC duo Steve Windaybank and Chris Trembath.
After losing the toss and being invited to bat, Herefordshire quickly lost Graham Parker and Kevin Smith, both for ducks, and then Richard Runciman for three before a partnership between Pete Hoare (19) and skipper Nick Osborne (10) gave the score a tinge of respectability.
Only Ian Oliver, with two, of the final six batsman even troubled the scores as John Courtney, who claimed four wickets in six overs without conceding a run, ran through the lower order.
Although Gloucestershire did not lose a wicket in pursuit of their target, the Herefordshire target, in which Runciman, who conceded only 14 runs from his allotted nine overs, stood out, made them fight hard for the runs.
Martin Bowyer (29 not out) and Mark Farey (eight no) saw the home side to victory but it took them more than 18 overs to reach their target.
